Building the Sanctuary in Zion occurs when the tried stone, the sure foundation was laid. While many believe a physical temple will be rebuilt in Jerusalem, the Bible demonstrates that the sure foundation is not brick and mortar. The tried stone is Jesus Christ. He is the One who was laid in Zion. See Matt. 21:33-43; Acts 4:11-12; Eph. 2:19-22; 1 Pet. 2:3-8.
Isaiah’s prophecy is quoted several times in the New Testment as noted above. Not once is this a reference to a physical temple. The idea of a temple being built in the literal city of Jerusalem runs counter to these prophecies in the Old Testament and the fulflment in the new.
In every text of the N.T., the Bible teaches that God and Christ are the new temple. John 4:23-24, not only confirms this fact, but even states that the time was at hand for the new temple to occur. The language, the time is coming and now is is the expression of the Lord that the near temple was about to appear in the first century.
