Breaking News! Up Date on the Red Heifer!
You may remember that two years ago there was tremendous excitement because five red heifers, bred in the US had been shipped to Israel in anticipation of (supposedly) the imminent rebuilding of the temple. Prophecy pundits assured us that one of these heifers would surely be the one necessary to offer in order to create the ashes of the Red Heifer that would be necessary for the purification of a last days priesthood and temple. According to the Law of Moses, (Numbers 19) where the mandate of the Red Heifer is given, those ashes are absolutely essential for the purification of the entire cultus.
I have written on this subject before noting that it is totally inconsistent for believers in Christ to expect a future temple, priesthood and the Red Heifer ashes. Why?
Among other things, the commandment for the Red Heifer sacrifice in found in the Law of Moses. Why is that significant? Well, to impose the Red Heifer mandate, the Law of Moses has to be in full force. Yet, in the Dispensational world, it is almost universally taught that the Law of Moses– which of course includes Numbers 19 and the Red Heifer mandate– has been totally fulfilled and will never be re-instituted! To say this is problematic for the modern doctrine of the Red Heifer is a huge understatement. Without the Law of Moses being valid and legal binding, there can be no Red Heifer command or even necessary! Period! End of story.
Nonetheless, we are still being told that there will soon be a Red Heifer sacrifice. But what about those five Red Heifers from a couple of years ago? Turns out that three of them have been officially disqualified. Not only that, but the other two are– to say the least– dubious at the point! And this is not simply me– as a denier of the modern Dispensational doctrine – saying this. It is admitted by the leading rabbis in Israel!
In a recent article perhaps the top rabbi openly admitted that there is not currently a qualified Red Heifer option among the two remaining of the five original calves. That means that for all the talk of an imminent rebuilt temple, there can be no purification. For all the talk of a restored Levitical priesthood (for which they have NO genealogical records!!), there can be no priesthood without the Red Heifer, and again, there is no such qualified Red Heifer!
No Red Heifer, no Temple, no priesthood, no sacrifices. And without the Law of Moses being valid and binding, even if they were to find a totally red Red Heifer TODAY, there is no valid command from God for the sacrifice of such an offering. No law of Moses, no Red Heifer sacrifice!
So, unless our Dispensational friends are going to now say that the Law of Moses is still in effect or that it will be restored, there is no basis whatsoever for any modern expectation of a Red Heifer sacrifice, or a yet future temple.
