Tonight we continue the critique of Johnny Oxendine’s lecture on the resurrection of the dead from 1 Thessalonians chapter 4. We address the chapter in its historical setting. We provide a comparative exegesis (interpretation) of the text by comparing it with the Matthew 24 text. Matthew 24 has all the textual keys for an interpretation of the resurrection. Yet, this divinely inspired text is discredited and disregarded as a valid source of information for the chapter. The ramifications of admitting that Matthew 24 and its AD70 emphasis is too much for the Amillennial Churches of Christ to swallow. As a result, they abandon Scripture and formulate a new eschatological paradigm of futurism.
